"Edward Edelen, born 1717 in Askington, Charles County, Maryland;

died 1780 in Charles County, Maryland. He married 3 June 1748, in

Charles County, Maryland, Susannah Wathen. They had 13 children, all

of whom were named in the father's will dated 21 October, 1779 and proved 25 March 1780. There was no mention of his wife and she is presumed to have died before his will was written. She was the sister of Clement Wathen according to Harry Wright Newman, genealogist."

Edward Edelen, gentleman, was a planter whose dwelling plantation, Assington, was located in Newport Hundred, Charles County, Maryland, which he received from his father Richard Edelen's estate in 1760, in addition to Truman's Hunting Quarter and Westwood Lodge. During the Revolutionary War he subscribed to the Patriot's Oath, administered by John Parnham. He died testate with a will dated Oct. 21, 1779 which was proved Mar. 25, 1780, leaving to his wife Susanna the dwelling plantation Assington, his water mill, and a number of slaves.
