About Edward "the Mercer" Hutchinson
Notes
- He was apprenticed to Edmund Knight for about 8 years beginning May 1577. On 8 Feb 1580, Knight signed him over to Christopher Dobson. (A person would generally be free of an apprenticeship at the age of 21, which suggests that Edward was born about 1563-64.)
- After his apprenticeship, he moved to Alford, a market town of Lincolnshire. He married Susannah and eventually became a follower of the Rev. John Cotton. When Cotton was punished and planned to move to New England, it is possible that Edward intended to move his family as well. He died before that could happen, although many of his children did move to Massachusetts. [1]
