Edward Lewes/Lewis was born to George and Mary (Doggett) Lewis, likely a few days before he was christened on 25 May 1634 in Staplehurst, Kent, England, United Kingdom[1][2]
Edward emigrated to New England with his mother and elder siblings, perhaps as early as 1634[3], definitely by March 1637, when his brother John was born in Scituate, Plymouth Colony.[4]
On 9 May 1661 in Barnstable, Plymouth Colony, he married Hannah Cob[5][6]
On 12 January 1662, Edward received from his father George Lewis 27 1/2 acres of land, adjoining the house lots.[7]
Together Edward and Hannah (Cobb) Lewis had the following children, in Barnstable, Plymouth Colony.[8][9] [10]
Edward Lewis of Barnstable wrote his will on 22 February 1702/3, proved 06 April 1703.
To his wife Hannah Lewis he gave all his personal estate; to sons Shubal & Isaac he gave all his housing and land; to son Ebenezer he gave wearing apparel and cloth; to son John 5 shillings; to son Thomas 5 shillings; to daughter Hannah 5 shillings. He named his wife and sons Shubal and Isaac to be executors.[13]
Edward Lewes/Lewis died 28 MAR 1703 in Barnstable, Barnstable, Massachusetts Bay. [14] and was buried there.
