Edward Stratton was born about 1655[1] and lived in Henrico County, Virginia.[2]
Edward was the son of Edward and his first wife, and he married Martha Shippy, daughter of his father's second wife (the widow Martha Shippy) and her first husband Thomas Shippy (d 1684).[2] ("The name [Sheppy] seems to have been variously rendered as Sheppey, Shippy, Shippey and Sheepy."[3])
"The Strattons lived in the Bermuda Hundred section of Henrico, now Chesterfield County, and in the list of Heads of Families in Henrico County, 1679, the name of 'Edward Stratton, Junr' appears." (p 274, #Torrence)[4]

The son of Edward and Martha, "a third generation Edward, was born c1680-7." He married Anne Batte, daughter of Capt. Henry Batte of Charles City and Prince George counties, Virginia. Edward and Martha's daughter, Martha, married Cox (she is named Martha Cox in her father's 1698 will, which names her, wife Martha, and son Edward; other children are mentioned, but not by name).[14] Daughter Sarah married Colonel Richard Jones in Charles City County, Virginia. Their daughter, Prudence Jones, born 1725, married Henry Ward in 1746. Edward and Martha's daughter Elizabeth married (by 1708, as his third wife) Thomas Chamberlayne, "sheriff and a major in the Henrico militia."[15]
Edward died in 1698 and his widow Martha married secondly (in 1703) John Brown of Henrico County.
GEDCOM Note
Edward received a gift of 46 acres from his father-in-law Thomas Shippey after the marriage to his daughter Martha. The 46 acres included an island and dwelli ng home where Edward lived until his death. In 1717, son Edward sold the 46 acr es except for a 6x6 foot burial plot where his father was buried. He sold the 4 6 acres to Francis Epps. Edward was granted 879 acres on the north side of Swif t Creek in Henrico Co., Va. 20 Oct., 1691 and later was granted 4,000 acres on the north side of the Appomattox River.
