Edward Walton, of New Kent County

Biography

Edward Walton, styled Junior, was born say 1672 of York County, Colony of Virginia, and died on 27 April 1720 at St. Peter’s Parish, New Kent County.

He may have been the son of Edward Walton, Sr. But he may have been an younger man in the same area.

He married Elizabeth (unknown) by about 1694 in Virginia. Her death is recorded at St. Peter’s Parish in New Kent on 5 April 1717.

She’s often seen as the daughter of Lemuel Mason, Jr. and Mary Thelaball, or a generation earlier as the daughter of Lemuel Mason, Sr. and Ann Sewall, of Lower Norfolk County, but both women’s marriages and children are known; the chronology is not possible and the geography unlikely.

Edward and Elizabeth Walton had six or seven children:

1. (perhaps) Robert Walton, born about 1695, probably in New Kent County
2. Mary Walton, baptized December 4, 1698, St. Peter's Parish Register, New Kent County, Virginia. Death: 7 Jan 1726/7, New Kent County, VA.
3. William Walton, baptized December 25, 1700, St. Peters Parish Register, New Kent County, Virginia. Death: abt 1747, Goochland County, VA. Married Susannah Cobb.
4. Thomas Walton, baptized February 20, 1702, St. Peters Parish Register, New Kent County, Virginia
5. Elizabeth Walton, baptized February 4, 1706, St. Peters Parish Register, New Kent County, Virginia
6. John Walton, born September 9, 1709, New Kent County, Virginia
7. (perhaps) Edward Walton, born Abt. 1719, New Kent County, Virginia, died 1791. Married Frances Thompson.

Edward Walton, Jr. was born in York Co., Virginia about 1668. His parents are unknown for sure at this time, whether they were Edward Walton, Sr. and Elizabeth Booth has not been established with proof. Elizabeth is said to be the daughter of Lemuel Mason, Jr. and Mary Thelaball born about 1683 in Virginia. This is also not proven. She died May 15, 1717, in New Kent Co., VA and Edward, her husband, died February 27, 1719/20 in New Kent Co., VA. They married before 1698, since their first child was born then.

The records of St. Peters Parrish show that the first five of Edward and Elizabeth’s six children were baptized or christened there. The dates shown above for their births are actually their baptismal dates.

Records showed that Edward and his father paid taxes at in 1704 in the Parish of St. Peters and St. Paul.
