PHILADELPHIA, April 10. - Edwards Shippen Willing, father of Mrs. John Jacob Astor, died of heart disease today at his home, 511 South Broad Street. He had just been driving. He climbed the stairs to his room, sank into a chair, and the nurse who had been beside him constantly during the last two months were with him. His son J. Barton Willing, returned to the house a short time later. Mr. Willing was 84 years old. He had been ill for two years. Mrs. Astorwas brought by reason of her father's condition two weeks ago, but after a time decided that it was safe to go away again. She is expected here tomorrow. Mr. Willing was born in this city on August 26, 1822, the youngest of the seven children to Richard and Eliza Willing. In 1841 he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. Some years later he married Alcie, daughter of Dr. John Rhea Barton, a distinguished surgeon. He never engaged in any pursuit, and was not at the time of his death a member of any social organization.
