Effie was a graduate of Ryder Divinity School. A department of Lombard College, Galerburg, IL. Effie and Ben were fellow classmates, they met and married. Effie and Ben had 2 daughters before he died. He was teh pasotr of the Universolist Church in Barre, VT. After his death Effie filled his pulpit until 1904. From there she became the pastor of 2 other Universolist churches. One in Waterloo, Iowa and Webster City, Iowa. She retired in 1946. While pastor at Waterloo in 1907, she was honored by the presentation of the honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity by her Alma Mater, Lombard College. In 1910 Effie went to Europe to address the International Congress of Religious Liberals of Berlin. While in Europe she also spoke before gatherings in London, Liverpool and in France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy and Holland. In 1917 Effie served as field director for the National Sufferage Association.
