"In this tomb lies the body of Lady Elenora Hungarford once wife of Sir John Hungerford (1582) of Down Ampney in the county of Gloucester, knight, and once the wife of William Masters in the county of Berkshire esquire, daughter of the Honorable Lord Hungerford and sister of Walter Hungarford, knight, "hac vita fragile" in god deceased 25th April in the year of Christ 1591

I have twice been well-married to husbands of noble stock

For one was a soldier, the other was an armor-bearer
But a cruel death has rescued me, a sweet pair of men;

And twice he gave me the sad name of the widow.
Now that's the bride, Jesus took me as my bridegroom

From a widow he made his bride and is his own.
He is my glory, my pitch, my life forever

The name of the widow shall not be after me."
