Sir Anthony Hungerford, Kt.

• Walter Hungerford, Baron of Heytesbury [1503-1540] was the only son and heir Of Sir Edward Hungerford [died 1522] & his wife Jane Zouche. Walter married 3 times and had 2 sons [Walter & Edward] and 2 daughters [Mary and Eleanor]. His son Walter was either the son of Susan [wife 1] or Alice [wife 2] & Edward, Mary & Eleanor wee born to his second wife. This line failed in the direct male line;

1. son Walter Hungerford [abt 1527-1596] only legitimate son died young in 1585, leaving him with 3 daughters [the son of his youngest daughter Lucy became his brother Edwards ultimate heir. The other daughters were Susan & Jane]

2. Edward Hungerford [ abt 1530 -1607] married twice [to Jane Hungeford daughter of Anthony Hungerford & Cecily Tufton] but had no surviving issue, so his great nephew Edward Hungerford became his heir.

• There is no known son Anthony. The "Anthony" Hungerfords belong to the "Down Ampney, Gloucestershire" Hungerfords & confusingly it IS this line who eventually inherited the "Farleigh Hungerford" property, when Walter Hungerford's [1527-1596] daughter Lucy Hungerford [wife of John St John & Anthony Hungerford] son Edward Hungerford became the ultimate heir of this family after Edward [1530-1607] died without issue.
