Eleanor (Maier?) married Edward Howell around 1630, after the death of his first wife. They had three sons, Henry, Arthur and Edmund.

Eleanor's maiden name is given, without any source mentioned, at the Edward Howell Family Association website.

"EDWARD HOWELL, Gent., died shortly before 6 October 1655 (grant of administration on his estate), and was buried in the Southend Cemetery, Southampton, Long Island. In 1657 his widow, Eleanor, was granted 20 shillings in compensation for her house being burned by the Indians. She married (2nd) before 14 March 1663 THOMAS SAYRE. Her subsequent history is unknown."[1]

The transcription has been proved by the original transcriber, Mr. Pellatreau, the publisher Mr. Hunt, and the current town clerk, against the original documents. There are eight volumes, the eighth volume in two parts.

The spelling in this transcription is Ellinor Howell. see page 109. She was granted administration of Edward Howell's estate 6 Oct 1655, date mentioned on page 108 and page 135.

See THE EARLY HISTORY OF LONG ISLAND by George R. Howell for the story of the confession of two American Indians regarding the burning of her home and the resolution by trial and execution.
