Biography

William De Percy, born about 1193. He married (1st) about 1226 Joan Briwerre (or Briwere). They had five daughters, including Joan (wife of Henry de Ferlington), Agnes (wife of Eustace de Balliol), Alice (wife of Randolph Heringaud [or Heringod], , and Anastasia. Joan died before 12 June 1233. He married (2nd) about 1233 Ellen de Balliol, daughter of Ingram de Balliol, by ____, daughter and heiress of Walter de Berkeley. They had six sons, Henry, Knt., Ingram, Knt., William [Canon at St. Peter's, York], Walter, Allan, and Jocelin. William De Percy died shortly before 28 July 1245. His widow, Ellen, died shortly before 22 Nov. 1281.

Eleanor became the second wife of William de Percy Lord of Topcliffe at Red Castle about 1234.

She and William became the parents of seven children:

  1. Ingelram de Percy born about 1230 Petworth, Northumberland, England died 1262 buried before 24 October 1262;
  2. Walter de Percy born about 1233 Petworth Northumberland, England;
  3. Henry de Percy born about 1235 Whitby, Yorkshire, England died 29 August 1272,buried Sawley Abbey, Craven, Yorkshire, England;
  4. William de Percy born about 1237 Whitby, Yorkshire, England;
  5. Geoffrey de Percy born about 1239 Petworth, Northumberland, England;
  6. Galfrid de Percy born about 1240 Whitby, Yorkshire, England;
  7. Alan de Percy born about 1241 Whitby, Yorkshire, England.

Eleanor died before 22 November 1281 at Topcliffe, Yorkshire, , England and was buried at Sawley Abbey, Craven, Yorkshire, England.
