Elias Giffard Knt. was the son of Elias III and Maud de Berkeley. Elias was under age at the time of his father's death in 1190. William Marshal, Earl of Pembroke held his wardship. Elias married first to Isabel Musard. His second wife was Alice Maltravers, daughter of John Maltravers of Lytchet Maltravers and his wife Hawise. Elias took up arms with the other Barons against King John, and in the 18th year of that Monarch's reign, all his lands were consisting of Wilts, Northampton, Goucester, Somerset, Dorset, Oxford, and Bersks, were given by order of the king to Bartholomew Peche, but restored by Henry III. By inquisition taken after the death of this feudal baron, in 1243, he was in possession of the manor of Winterborne, Wiltshire, England, and that lordship was then the head of his barony. Children with his first wife, Isabel Musard: Matilda, m. godfrey Scudamore and had a child named Peter. Isabel, m. Thomas le Tabler, and had a son named Guy Mabel, m. Richard Dansy and had a son named Richard His child with his second wife Alice Mautravers: John, aged 16 at his father's death in 1249, he married first Margaret Neville and second Maud de Longespeé (widow and her original name was Clifford).
