Elias Kgari Sehularo (1928 - 2009)

Brief overview:

Elias (81) a businessman from the Sekai Plot, Midlands, Roodepan, outside Kimberley, was murdered on 15th May 2009. He sustained fatal injuries to his head from being beaten with a garden spade and a stone.

In April 2010, Gift David Mukondo, a Zimbabwean from Masvingo village, stood trial in the Kimberley High Court. He admitted that he stole a cellphone, bicycle, radio and DVD player as well as R1 000 in cash.

Kimberley Hospital pathologist, Doctor Sonata Walraven, testified, “The man died from severe head injuries with incised wounds, lacerations and contusions to the scalp. He had multiple head fractures and the base of the skull was crushed,” she told the court. She said the 15-centimetre-long head injury on the right side of the elderly man’s head, caused by the spade, was inflicted with such force that the weapon penetrated the skull and the brain. This fracture extends to the base of the skull.

The case was to continue on 22nd April 2010.
