Elihu and his brother Christopher were both involved in the family's iron forge at Potowomut and had a mercantile partnership ( E. &C. Greene). Their close relationship is reflected in the name of one their sloops, Two Brothers. Their partnership began circa 1786 and they conducted business locally, as well as up and down the east coast. They shipped iron iron products (especially anchors), staple goods, produce, milling of grain, shoe repair and sales, wool spinning, medicine and alcohol. Though Elihu died in 1827, it appears that Christopher kept the business going until his death in 1830.
