Son of James Lassiter, Jr. (ca. 1730/35 - 1811) of Northampton County, NC and his first wife unknown.
Elijah Lassiter’s mother may have been Sarah Mashborne, daughter of Matthew Mashborne (d. 1760) of Northampton County, NC. Circumstantial evidence and autosomal DNA seem to support this conclusion.
The children of James Lassiter, Jr. and his first wife [possibly Sarah Mashborne] were Shadrack Lassiter, Green Lassiter, Elijah Lassiter, Elias Lassiter, James Lassiter III, and Penelope Lassiter (md. Naaman Mills).
Lydia ____ Lassiter (ca. 1771/79 - after 1860) was the second and much younger wife of James Lassiter, Jr. They married around 1790 in Northampton County, NC. Some Lassiter researchers have asserted that Lydia was a Kinchen, based on the fact that she named a son Kinchen Lassiter. However, there is no primary source documentary evidence establishing her maiden name. James Lassiter, Jr. and his second wife Lydia were the parents of Henrietta Lassiter, Abigail Lassiter, Reinford Lassiter, Kinchen Lassiter, and Jordan Lassiter.
Lydia Lassiter was Elijah Lassiter’s stepmother, not his mother.
In 1813, widow Lydia Lassiter married her stepson James Lassiter III (ca. 1780 - after 1850), younger brother of Elijah Lassiter. James III and Lydia had one daughter Rebecca Lassiter (b. ca. 1813; md. William Simpson). James and Lydia resided in Northampton County, NC until at least 1828, and subsequently migrated to Trigg County, KY along with Lydia’s sons Kinchen and Jordan Lassiter. James and Lydia Lassiter are enumerated on the 1850 census of Trigg County, KY. Lydia Lassiter was still alive on the 1860 census of Trigg County, KY.
Elijah Lassiter was a Revolutionary War soldier. He migrated from Northampton County, NC to Johnston County, NC sometime between 1786 and 1792, settling on Sasserixa Swamp in present day Elevation Township, Johnston County, NC. Elijah Lassiter applied for a Federal Revolutionary War pension (S9369) in Johnston County, NC on February 25, 1834.

The identity of Elijah Lassiter’s wife is unknown. Her identity is never revealed in any primary source records of either Northampton or Johnston Counties, NC. Census data indicates that she was born in the 1760s, and she was still living in 1840. She likely died before 1847, as she is not mentioned in the will of Elijah Lassiter.
Elijah Lassiter and his wife unknown were the parents of Talitha Lassiter (ca. 1784/90, md. David Johnson); Sarah Lassiter (ca. 1789-aft. 1850, md. Solomon Whittington); William Lassiter (ca. 1792-1875, md. Lucy Stephenson); Lucy Lassiter (ca. 1794-1862, md. James Johnson); Martha "Patsy" Lassiter (ca. 1797-1863, md. John Carroll); Jason Lassiter (ca. 1800-1877, md. Thena H. Cotton); James Lassiter (1800-1847, md. Lucy Lockhart); Shadrack Lassiter (ca. 1803-aft. 1850, md. Lucy Johnson); Elijah Lassiter, Jr. (ca. 1803-aft. 1850, md. Mary "Polly" Tomlinson); Mary Lassiter (ca. 1808-1850, 1md. Gideon Woodall; 2md. Peter R. Temple); Elisha Lassiter (ca, 1809-aft. 1860, md. Obedience "Beady" Carroll); and Penelope "Penny" Lassiter (ca. 1810-ca. 1852/53, 1md. Jacob T. Woodall, 2md. George Stephenson).
The will of Elijah Lassiter was devised in Johnston County, NC on December 13, 1847, and was probated May 22, 1848. Federal pension records indicate that Elijah Lassiter died March 4, 1848.
