About Lt. Elijah Shoemaker

Elijah came to the Wyoming Valley with the "First forty" of Kingston, Luzern County PA, taking his father's share of the Indian Purchase, some 1200 acres of the best land in the township, adjoining the land of Col Nathan Denison on the southwest. He settled in 1769. He was 2nd Lt of the 2nd Co. 24th Regiment CT Militia in Captian Aholiab Buck's company, and was treacherously murdered by a Tory named Windecker whom he had befriended. His widow with Elijah fled to her father in Stroudsburg until circumstances were such that they could return to the Wyoming Valley.

DAR A 104179, Lt. Pa. Battle of Wyoming, Pa.

Slain in the Battle of Wyoming, which was in Wyoming Valley, Westmoreland County, Connecticut at the time of his death.

P Fazzini gives the birth date and location: March 22, 1747 in Smithfield, Northampton County, Pennsylvania.

Otis Anderson has a baptismal record stating he was baptized February 15, 1747 at Smithfield Reformed Dutch Church in Northampton County, Pennsylvania.

Note: today there is no Smithfield in Northampton county, but there is one in Fayette County. These counties are across the state from each other, so it's unlikely the Smithfield in Fayette County is the same town.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Aug 2 2022, 2:25:12 UTC
