About Eliphalet Reed Throckmorton
Eliphalet Reed Throckmorton, a well know farmer of Franklin township, died at his home, three miles west of Waynesburg, Thursday morning, June 12. He had been in failing health for several months but had been confined to his room only a few days.
Mr. Throckmorton was born in the Throckmorton homestead in Center township, May 19, 1840, and was a son of Morford and Nancy Simpson Throckmorton, deceased. He was the last of a family of ten cildren. His parents were pioneer settlers of the county, the father having come from New Jersey in the early days, and the mother being a daughter of Rev. John Simpson, a pioneer Methodist Episcopal minister. In his youth he attended the common schools, entered Waynesburg college and later took a special course in a college in Pittsburgh. For many years he taught in the public schools of the county.
In his early manhood he united with the Throckmorton Methodist Episcopal church and throughout his long life he was most faithful and active in its service.
He was united in marriage with Miss Samantha Hill, October 17, 1866. He is survived by his wife and three children, Miss Nannie Throckmorton, Mrs. J. B. (Alice) Pollock and Howard (Fannie) Throckmorton.
