Bernard became the sequel to the Benedict branch of Hustopece. He was born 1851 in Velke Pavlovice (Gross Pawlowitz) and belonged officially to Podivin. He studied in Bratislava.

His wife Elisabeth, née Aschkenes, was born in 1855 in Podivín.

Like a traditionally religious family Bernard and Elizabeth were endowed with numerous offspring: after the first-born Naftalim(died in 1887 at age 13) followed by Sidonie - Sidi, Emma (married Böck), Samuel - Fritz, Markus - Max, Anna, Laura, Adolf, Frida, Rosa,Berta, Hans - John Cyril, Katharina and Karl(he died at age 9 months).

Of these children only Emma and Adolf remained in Hustopeče. Some escaped before the Holocaust: Sidonia, Fritz, Frida, Katharina and Hans.

Some were sent to concentration camps. Of these, Markus, Anna, Berta, Rosa and Adolf died. Only Emma, wife of the Hustopeče rabbi, survived along with Adolf's son Bernard.
