Elise (Ele) Winkler

"Sister Ele was married to David Winkler in Schnaittach. She was a refined and educated woman and so she hesitated to enter this union. David was quite a good-natured but an uneducated boy. But what did they ask then about like or dislike? The young man had more money than the one in Uhlfeld whom she liked better and so she had to give in. How well I remember the tears on the trip to Eschenau where I was taken along, being her favourite and I could stay with her for a few months in Schnaittach in her new home. The Winklers moved to Nürnberg and dealt in hops under the guidance of this intelligent woman who acquired quite a reputation in the trade. The marriage was not ideal, as both were different personalities."
