According to Ruby Hooten and Mary Derry in an interview in 1981, "Elisha Darby was a bald-headed gentleman who wore his hat in church out of pride and formality." He also liked to help in his son's store. "He was the dearest sweetest, kindest old man. They lived in a cute cottage.He was an aristocratic old fella."

March 5, 1849 (C-186R) Elisha Darby and Charlotte, his wife of Iroquois County, sold to Arena (?) Flesher (perhaps his sister Eliza's husband or in-law East half SE 1/4 SW 1/4, Section 24, Danforth Twp. for $10

Jedidiah deeded 20 acres to Elisha as well as 20 acres to Elijah.

On May 1, 1845 Elisha sold this piece of land to his brother-in-law, Lemuel J Flesher for $70.00

May 12, 1846: (B-351) Elisha purchased Lot 7, Block 35, Middleport for $20.

June 20 1846 (B-368) Elisha purchased Lot 8 Block 2, Middleport (currently Watseka) for $10.

April 16, 1847 (B-437) Elisha purchased Lot 6, block 48, Middleport for $10.

April 15, 1856 (I-443) Elisha, of Grant Co. WI sold SW 1/4 SE1/4 Section 24, Danforth Twp. for $125

August 5, 1845 (B-294-5) Elisha Darby filed suit against Garrett Eoff (His brother in law (Nancy's first husband)) for $100 owed Elisa for services rendered and $50 paid on behalf of Eoff (2 witnesses), $10, and $1. In Garret's possession were an 8- yr. old stud horse worth $100, a red cow worth $10, one two horse wagon worth $20, and a set of double.... (likely harness) worth $5, all of which he could keep in his possession if he pays. No information to the outcome of the suit.

Elisha was also involved with other family members in a law suit brought in 1981 by Nancy Darby Eoff Jefferson against Moses Darby to quiet a title to land which Nancy claimed was given to her by her father. She won.
