If all the following from Nancy Miller Thompson Smith is correct, then a lot of changes need to be made to the data here for Elisha, starting with the maiden name of his wife Elizabeth.

Elisha Hammer was born in Pennsylvania before his parents moved to the Cane Creek MM in Orange County, North Carolina. In the 1785 Tax List of Randolph County both Elisha and Isaac were listed as owning seventy five acres of land. He was at least twenty-one years of age to be listed on the North Carolina Tax List in 1779. Since he was not named in Friends MM records, it can be assumed that he never was a Quaker.

In 1805/1806 he moved to Milford Township, Butler, Ohio with his family, and the families of his three married children. They left with the thousands of Quakers who moved from North Carolina to Ohio in the early 1800's.

By the 1820 Census Elisha was shown as over 45 living with his son John. His wife, Elizabeth, died prior to that time, and in ca. 1822 he married Violet Wade. They moved to Warren County, Tennessee, and purchased 100 acres in the Barrin Fork of the Collins River. He later purchased 250 additional acres there.

Elisha Hammer made his will on October 7, 1831. He died May 18, 1837 in Warren County where his will was probated in the same year. In his will he left his estate to his wife, Violet, to possess during her widowhood, but if she remarried or died then the estate would be divided between his eleven children by his first wife, and four children by his second wife, Violet. He also provided care for his son, Moses, who was incapacitated in some way. He names the children by his first wife, but not his second wife.

(Heiss, Willard, Abstract of Records of Society of Friends in Indiana, Book VII, pt. 4, pp 158, 180.) His will was written in May of 1840, and probated in Sept. of 1841.
John and Nancy came with their children in 1710 to Butler County, Ohio with John’s father, Elisha Hammer and his family. They purchased a farm there near Milford Township. They sold this farm in about 1838, and moved to Henry County, Indiana. Children (one son and seven daughters):
