About Eliza Elizabeth White Driggs

Eliza Elizabeth White, daughter of Henry Harvey White (1782 - 1840) and Rebecca Smith (1785 - 1867), was born 14 July 1812 at Chester, Windsor County, Vermont; and died 10 February 1896 at her home in Pleasant Grove, Utah County, Utah. She is buried with her husband at Pleasant Grove City Cemetery, Pleasant Grove, Utah County, Utah, Plot A-09-003-12.

Eliza married Shadrach Ford Driggs (28 August 1813 Ashtabula County, Ohio - 26 October 1898 Pleasant Grove, Utah County, Utah), son of Urial Driggs (1780 - 1846) and Hannah Ford (1780 - 1848) in June 1836 in Ohio; they had twelve known children.

Eliza and Shadrach joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ohio, and traveled west with the main body of the church. They lived in Nauvoo for four years while Shadrach made wagons for other pioneers. Shadrach was 38 years old and Eliza was 39 years old when they and their children (Benjamin, aged 15; Hannah, aged 13; Appollos, aged 11; Isaac, aged 10; Parley, aged 7; Charles, aged 4; and Mark, aged 2.) crossed the plains to Utah in the Uriah Curtis Company. The company consisted of about 365 individuals and 51 wagons when it began its journey from the outfitting post at Kanesville, Iowa (present-day Council Bluffs). They departed on 28 June 1852 and arrived in the Salt Lake Valley at the end of September.

Less than two weeks after arriving in Salt Lake, Eliza gave birth to a daughter, Eliza, on the 11th of October 1852. The family settled in Pleasant Grove within a couple of months, where they eventually had two more children, Mary Melissa and Daniel Shadrach.

Shadrach also married Cecelia Harvey (1819 - 1905) on 30 March 1856 at Provo, Utah County, Utah Territory, with whom he had one known child.
