Obituary
Mrs. Backes Dies, Widow of Jurist
Mrs. Elizabeth Hattersley Backes, widow of Vice Chancellor John H. Backes died last night after a long illness at Hotel Stacy-Trent where she made her home.
Mrs. Backes was a lifelong resident of this city and was a graduate of Joseph Wood School and Trenton High School.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Joseph G. Bigalke of South Orange, Mrs. Thomas H. Prior of Trenton and Mrs. Ernest B. Wright of Upper Montclair; two sisters, Miss Florence Hattersley and Mrs. Carl Stephenson of Trenton; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be private from Ivins & Taylor, 77 Prospect Street on Saturday. Requiem high mass will be celebrated in St. Francis Church at 9:30, with interment at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing.
