We know of Elizabeth Townsend from the Visitation records of the Heralds in which she is identified as the daughter of Thomas Townsend of Testerton, Norfolk. The Townsend have an ancient lineage in Norfolk & her family are recorded in Norfolk Harleian 1400. Thomas was the 5th son of Sir Roger Townsend and brother of Sir Roger Townsend of Raynham, Norfolk who died 25 November 1551.

The dates of birth and death are purely conjecture but fit in with other facts known about her family.
