Birth

Elizabeth was born in Feb (poss Apr) of 1731 at Marshfield, Massachusetts. She was the 4th child and daughter of John Rogers and first child of Sarah Wing [1] .

Marriage

Married ilas Hoxie in Sandwich, Massachusets, 20 Jun 1750 [2] 3 Children: (all born in Sandwich, Massachusets [3]

Barnabas Hoxie, 30 Feb 1751, d. 16 Jul 1758 (see Note 3)
Isaac Hoxie, b. 22 Jul 1754
Sarah Hoxie, b. 2 Jul 1765 (posthumous)
In 1802, she was the "heiress" of Stephen Stockbridges' (her nephew) estate.[4]

Death

Elizabeth died in Sandwich, Massachusetts on 9 Sept 1819 [5]

1) The birth record for Bettie [Rogers] Hoxie does not state her parentage. This has been ascertained from:

a) The will of Elisha Wing of Wareham, yeoman, dated 8 June 1752 and proved 19 May 1757, which mentioned Elizabeth, a child [his] daughter Sarah left by her husband John Rogers[6].
b) The will of Elizabeth Wing of Rochester, widow and relict of Benjamin Wing, dated 18th of 6 month, called June, 1756 and proved 5 July 1756, which mentioned Betty Hoxie, daughter to my sister Sarah Rogers[7].
2) The will of Silas Hoxie
of Sandwich, yeoman, dated 17th (4th month) April 1765 and proved 8 June 1765, mentioned his wife, Betty and son Isaac. It also made provision for another child with specific instructions of inheritance for a son verses a daughter. Betty Hoxie and his brother Hezekiah Hoxie were made executors. Witnesses were Timothy Jones (who was out of the province at the time of proving the will), Silvanus Jones and John Allyn.
The inventory of Silas’ estate was dated 1 July 1765 and included real estate. The account was dated 22 October 1765 and mentioned amounts paid to John Hoxie and Mary Wing as legacies from their father[8].
3) On possible Date Discrepancies:

Silas and Betty Hoxie were of the Quaker faith and their family records are found in the Sandwich Monthly Meeting Records of Birth & Marriages from 1646-1761. Prior to September of 1752, under the Julian calendar, the year began in the month of March. On changing to the Gregorian calendar, the year began with the month of January.
