Biography

Sarah was a Friend (Quaker)

On 18d 2m 1720 [18 Apr 1720] she was disowned by the Dartmouth monthly meeting for having “fallen into that foul sin of fornication.”[2] The condemnation is as follows:[2]

Marriage

Married first (1) Philip Turner, 7 Sept 1750

Married second (2) John Rogers, appx 1730[1]

The record of the marriage of John Rogers to Sarah Wing has not been found, (date of 1730 is estimated from their first child Elizabeth's Birth) however, the marriage record for Philip Turner of Wareham, Blacksmith, dated 7 September 1750, calls him “son to Sarah Roggers, wife of John Roggers of Marshfield.[1] The will of Elisha Wing of Wareham, yeoman, dated 8 June 1752 and proved 19 May 1757, mentioned his grandson, Philip Turner, son of daughter Sarah, and Elizabeth and Mehitable, two children daughter Sarah left by her husband, John Rogers[3] The will of Elizabeth Wing of Rochester, widow and relict of Benjamin Wing, [daughter of Elisha and Mehitable (Butler) Wing], dated 18 of sixth month called June 1756 and proved 5 July 1756, mentioned Philip Turner, son to my sister Sarah Roggers and Betty Hoxie, wife of Silas Hoxie, and daughter to my sister Sarah Roggers. Her brother, Butler Wing was appointed executor[4] Stephen Stockbridge, son of Thomas and Hannah (Rogers) Stockbridge and a grandson of John Rogers of this sketch, died in Scituate on 23 April 1802. His parents, siblings and only child had predeceased him. His estate was divided between his widow, Rachel (Howland) Stockbridge and Betty (Rogers) Hoxie, who was an “heir-at-law”, [a half sister to his mother, and his only surviving aunt][5]

Notes

Note NI960Sarah Wing (Elisha Wing, Stephen Wing, Rev. John, Matthew), born about 1695 in Rochester, Barnstable Co., Massachusetts. Once again, the OWL indicates that Sarah was born about 1700/01 but other Wing researchers are of the opinion that Sarah was born earlier than that. The reasons cited are because Elisha and Mehitable were married in 1689 and if both Judah and Sarah were not born until 1700 or so, that would have meant that Elisha and Mehitable had been married eight years before the birth of Jedediah, the first recorded birth of Elisha and Mehitable. Also, Sarah had her first child in 1720, before Jedediah had even married which also might indicate that she was older than Jedediah. While it is entirely possible that Elisha and Mehitable were married eight years before the birth of their first child, it is highly unlikely. Sarah, like her brother Judah, was dead by the time her father made his will in 1752.

Sarah Wing would marry twice. Her first marriage was to Unknown Turner. The date of their marriage is not known, but they had a child together in July of 1720. Sarah's second marriage was to John Rogers on March 11, 1727/28. John Rogers was born about 1685 in Duxborough, Plymouth, Massahcusetts, the son of Joseph Rogers and Abigail Barker.
Sarah Wing and Unknown Turner had the following child:
1. Philip Turner, born July 8, 1720 at Rochester, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts.
Sarah Wing and John Rogers had the following children:
1. Elizabeth Rogers, born April 5, 1731
2. Unknown Rogers born about 1733
