About Elizabeth Butler
Biography
Caution: Some internet genealogies show a second husband John Wynne. There is no documentation, however, for such a connection.
Elizabeth was the daughter of Thomas Wroth and Mary Rich.[1][2] Her birth date is uncertain but her 1574 marriage date may point to a birth date of 1555-1560. She was a legatee in the 1573 will of her father.[1][2]
Elizabeth married twice. On 24 June 1574 at Hertingfordbury, Hertfordshire, she married George Mynne Esq of Hertingfordbury.[1][2][3] They had six children:
- Robert,[1][2] their eldest son[4]
- John,[1][2] their second son[4]
- George[1][2]
- Mary[1][2][4]
- Susan[1][2][4]
- Anne,[4] who married George Calvert[1][2]
Her first husband died in 1581,[1][2] and appointed Elizabeth sole executor, leaving her his manor at Gawlden, Somerset and other lands in London, Hertfordshire and Somerset.[4]
Elizabeth's second husband was Nicholas Boteler/Butler.[1][2]
In 1606 Elizabeth had a bequest from her brother Robert.[1][2]
Elizabeth died on 14 August 1614.[1][2]
