Notes From 'The History of the Family of Drury In the Counties of Suffolk and Norfolk From the Conquest' by Arthur Campling, London, 1937:

"Eliz. Carew sister of Sir Peter Carew kt. called Baron of Idrone (descended with other estates to ye Carews his Ancestors from the Heyres generall of Raymond le Crose and Robert Fitz Stephens, two of the first Conquerors of Ireland)."

From genforum.genealogy.com

"The Elizabeth Carew who married Robert Drury of Leighlin in Co. Carlow is described as a sister of Peter Carew, (styled) Baron of Idrone. Unfortunately there were two Peter Carews...

"The first Peter was born around 1514 at Mohuns Ottery in Devon. He was perhaps second son of William Carew, Feudal Lord of Mohuns Ottery and his wife Joan daughter of Sir William Courtenay of Powderham Castle. In 1547 he married Margaret, widow of George d.j. 2nd Baron Talboys and daughter of Sir William Skipwith of Ormsby. Peter died childless on 27 November 1575 at Ross in Co. Waterford, having successfully reclaimed the Barony of Idrone. He was buried in Waterford, and had a monument in Exeter Cathedral.

"The second Peter was a first cousin of the first Peter, but was probably born more than 30 years later, being elder son of George Carew, Dean of Exeter and Windsor (c 1498-1583) by his much younger wife Anne (born 1529) daughter of Sir Nicholas Hervey (d. 1532) Ambassador to the Emperor Charles V. This Peter was probably not born before 1550 and had a younger brother George, born 29 May 1555, who was created Earl of Totnes. Peter married Audrey daughter of William Gardiner and had a daughter, Anne. He succeeded his forementioned cousin in the Barony of Idrone, but was killed in a skirmish with the Irish on 25 August 1580. His widow married Sir Edmund Verney and had further children.

"We then have the problem of deciding which Peter was the brother of our Elizabeth. I would suggest that she was brother of the second Peter on chronoligical grounds. This is because her eldest grandchild for which I can find a date was Sir Robert King, eldest son of her daughter Katherine Drury (d. 14 October 1617). Robert is said to have been born about 1599. Furthermore Katherine's brother Thomas Drury's son Robert was born about 1610. This would suggest that Elizabeth Carew could have been born in the 1550's, which ties in with the date for the second Peter's younger brother George, who as mentioned above was born in 1555.

"I'm not sure where your date of 1518 comes from for her birth. Maybe it came from the I.G.I.? It accumulates a vast amount of speculative information which later gets treated as fact, especially regarding dates and places of birth!

"There may be a second reason for thinking that our Elizabeth was a sister of the second Peter Carew. I've seen a Carew pedigree (can't remember where off the top of my head) which said he had sisters Mary (wife of Walter Dowrish) and 'Elizabeth who died young'. Elizabeth may have died fairly young, as she only seems to have had two children by Robert Drury.

"So assuming she was sister of the second Peter Carew, I'd suggest she would have been daughter of George Carew and Anne Hervey, who already had ties with the Drury family - Anne Hervey's great grandmother was a Drury."
