About Elizabeth Ellen Causley
Biography "OBITUARY." Daily Examiner (Grafton, NSW: 1915 - 1954) 13 Jan 1931[1] MRS. S. CAUSLEY, SENIOR. The death occurred at the residence of her son, Samuel, in the early hours of Saturday morning of an old and well-known and respected resident of the Lower Clarence, in the person of Mrs. Elizabeth Causley, wife of Mr. Samuel Causley, senr., at the age of 80 years. Mrs. Causley, who was living in retirement, with her husband, in Maclean, for several years, had been ailing for some time and as her condition became worse she was removed to her son's residence at Chatsworth Island, where she was carefully nursed until the end.
Mrs. Causley was born at Copmanhurst, being a member of the McKee family, one of the oldest and most widely known families of Upper Clarence. On her marriage to Mr. Samuel Causley, the couple removed to Harwood Island, about 52 years ago, where Mr. Causley leased a farm at Martin's Point. This he worked for several years, afterwards purchasing a farm at Mororo, adjoining Fischer's, which he worked, and lived upon for a number of years.
The family afterwards purchased a large holding on Chatsworth, adjacent to the Mororo ferry, and this was handed over to the sons several years ago, the aged couple purchasing property in Maclean, where they continued to live until Mrs. Causley's removal to her son's home for treatment.
The deceased was a most industrious woman and was a great help to her husband through life. Her death will be a great affliction to him, as the old couple were deeply attached to one another, and were very happy in their home at Maclean.
Deceased leaves two daughters and four sons, besides her husband, to mourn her, the daughters being Mrs. Ernest Fischer (Maroochy, Queensland) and Mrs. William Kratz (Woombah), and the sons, Messrs. Samuel G., George, Joseph and Walter, of Chatsworth.
The funeral, which was very largely attended, took place on Sunday, the remains being interred in the Church of England cemetery. The Rev. C. Rowe performed the last sad rites at the grave side, and spoke very feelingly of the high character and Christian principles of the deceased.
