Elizabeth's family provides us with a deep and well documented family lineage. Her parents are John and Jane (Elliott) Boteler of Roxwell Parish, Essex, England. Johnâs grandfather, George Butler was from Bedfordshire, whose manors included those of Tofte and Lorings in Sharnbrook and Souldrop and his grandmother was Mary, the daughter of Richard Throckmorton of Higham Park, Northamptonshire. Through Johnâs grandmother, Cressett Saint John (pronounced âSinJinâ), the family can claim descent several times over to Geoffrey Plantagenet, Count of Anjou through his son Henry II King of England, and Hamelin Earl of Sussex through the Saint John line as well as the Neville line. Along with descent from Henry de Bohun, Earl of Hereford and signer of the Magna Carta.[12]
Jane Elizabeth Boteler (Butler) Claiborne [1][2] is a Gateway Ancestor of the Magna Carta Surety Barons who coerced King John to endorse the document at Runnymede, England in June 1215.
