About Elizabeth Cleavenger (Goodwin)

Source: http://www.wvgenweb.org/barbour/rcleven.htm

Miner Cleavenger was first married on 20 Feb 1809, to Elizabeth GOODWIN Cleavenger, b. circa 1789, date unknown, in Harrison County, VA, d. 21 Sep 1820, at Simpsons Creek, Harrison County, VA, by the Rev. Benjamin Webb. Elizabeth was the daughter of John and Elizabeth WEBB Goodwin. They appear in the 1810 and 1820 Harrison County Censuses.

Miner’s first wife, Elizabeth GOODWIN Cleavenger, died 21 Sep 1820, at Simpsons Creek, Harrison County, VA, and was buried at the Cleavenger Cemetery at Galloway, Barbour County, WV. Her tombstone, which in 1998 is still very legible, is the oldest tombstone in the Cleavenger Cemetery, on which the dates are clear as of this writing. She is listed on it as "wife of M. Clevenger, age 31 years, died 21 Sep 1820." Elizabeth and Miner had six children.

One other note about the first wife of Miner Cleavenger, namely Elizabeth GOODWIN Cleavenger, is that if one is looking for a DAR connection, her father, John Goodwin, b. 28 Sep 1762 in Montgomery County, MD, d. 20 Nov 1842, fought in the Revolutionary War, first from 1778-1780 with Capt. William Lothers of Virginia, then with Capt. Joseph Gregory's company until 1782. John was pensioned in 1833. His wife Elizabeth WEBB Goodwin was b. 20 Dec 1776 and d. 11 Sep 1846. These two individuals are buried in the Morris/Goodwin Cemetery located off Beards Run off the Brushy Fork road in Simpson District, Harrison County, WV. I visited these still legible tombstones in 1992.
