"Again to return to Laurence Crawfurd of Kilbirnie, succeeded Hugh his son and heir, who, adhering to the interest of Queen Mary, at the battle of Langside, after her escape from Dumbarton castle, joined her majesty’s troops with a number of his vassals, for which offence he took remission from the regent, the Earl of Lennox, in the year 1571.
"He was twice married, first with Margaret, daughter of Sir John Colquhoun of Luss ;
and afterwards he espoused Elizabeth, daughter of David Barclay of'Ladyland ; by the first he had Malcolm, his son and heir;
and of the last he had William, ancestor of that branch of the Crawfurds of Knightswood.
He had, moreover, four daughters, viz.
- Marion, married to John Boyle of Kelburn, of whom the Earl of Glasgow is lineally descended;
- Margaret, to James Galbraith of Kilcroick, an ancient family in Stirlingshire; [Margaret married 2nd to Sir Aulay MacAulay of Ardencaple]
- Catherine, to William Wallace of Elderslee;
- Elizabeth, to David Brady of Castleton in Clackmannanshire.
He deceased in the year 1576, and had for his successor Malcolm, his son and heir, who wedded Margaret, daughter of John Cunningham of Glengarnock, ...."
