-------------------------------------------
Elizabeth's birth place, Aldborough is a Norfolk village.
Sustead is also in Norfolk. By the time that Philip and Elizabeth DOUGHTY were married, both were "of this parish" - Sustead. I believe that Aldborough was the origin of the PITCHERs, Elizabeth's mother's people.
After their marriage they later lived in Holt, and it is from there that they came to South Africa.
All of these villages are to be found in the North-eastern part of Norfolk, a little to the west of the seaside town of Cromer. Holt is quite a largish centre now.
The records we have show her as being an only child. However they have recently found that she had a brother, christened on the same day that she was - a twin who died as an infant.
On July 1st I received from Susan Viljoen <cgviljoen@xsinet.co.za> this information from the Sustead Archdeacon Transcripts (1725-1812 with gaps) William Doughty son of William and Elizabeth (nee Pitcher) born 19th February 1792 - baptism 3rd March 1792, I will, therefore, add this child to the family.
Look at the notes on her mother Elizabeth Pitcher to see copies of letters written to her by her mother. Also look at the notes for her husband's brother William Frost to see a copy of the letter written to her from him in 1851.
Elizabeth was, indeed, christened on the same day she was born. Parish records of Sustead, 1789: "Elizabeth daughter of William and Elizabeth Doughty (late Pitcher spinster) born and baptised March 1st 1789."
I received this from Millicent Emslie on 26 July 2005:
"Supplement to the Uitenhage Times Friday 28th September 1866.
Died at Grass Ridge on Sunday last, the 23rd instant, Elizabeth Frost, aged 77 years 6 months and 11 days."
Also received this - Uitenhage Times 26 Octob er 1866. "To let or to live: farm 'Coega' alias Dornkom situate in the Coega and adjacent 'Grass Ridge' - adjoins 'Balmoral,' 'Sandfontein' and Cornelius Forbes' well-know outspanning....."
