Elizabeth Garrett

Elizabeth Ware (c1638 co. Kent, England-) m. c1663 John Garrett (c1638-) son of John Garrett of Isle of Wight, VA. In 1657, Lt. Col. Robert Abrall was granted 950 acres in New Kent Co., for trans. 19 persons, one of which was Eliza. Ware. In 1664, John Pigg and Robert Abrall were granted 1250 acres in New Kent, and in 1663, George Bryar and Richard Lawrence received 3,000 acres for trans. 60 persons, 3 of which were: Peter Ware, Jno. Pigg and Jno Garrett. Their relationship appears to be based on the 1665 New Kent land grant held jointly by Nicholas Ware and John Garrett.

Elizabeth Ware’s father, Peter Ware and at least a part of his family probably immigrated first in the Plymouth Colony, but due to religious disagreement moved by 1646 to the Hampton Parish in Virginia. We find Peter Ware in Ireland in 1636 selling his property before coming to America by way of England. Some records have all of Peter Ware’s childrenimmigrati ng with him in 1646 -- if so Elizabeth Ware would have been 12years old. Other records report that Elizabeth Ware “wanted to join her father and brother in Virginia” thus suggesting that she did not immigrate in 1646 but stayed in England until she came over with John GARRETT II in 1664.

GENERATION THREE

John Garrett III (1630->1665) m. Elizabeth Ware (c1638 co. Kent, England-Aft 1664 New Kent Co., VA), d/o Peter Ware III and Mary Hicks and settled in New Kent Co., VA. Her brother, Nicholas Ware I, married Jenny Garrett, sister of John Garrett, III. In 1655 John Garrett III and John Hudson jointly received a land grant of 386 acres in New Kent Co. Ten years later in 1665, John Garrett and Nicholas Ware jointly patented 386 acres in New Kent Co, VA where they settled and raised their families.
