Elizabeth Thompson was born in 1681. Sometime before 1703, Mainwaring Hilton and Elizabeth Thompson had a liaison which produced their illegitimate son Ebenezer Hilton. According to Liz Cardwell, Elizabeth disclosed the parentage of Ebenezer (see citation). And according to Jerry Hilton, they had another son, Mannerell Hilton, of whom nothing further is known.2,3

Mainwaring Hilton was born in 1683. This name is sometimes given as Mannering, or Mannerel. Most of what is known about him is from the Court Notices. Elizabeth Thompson, (daughter of John and Sarah (Emery) Thompson), is responsible for a large segment of those bearing the name of Hilton. Having joined the Church on 23 May 1703, and being about to marry Alexander Gray, she came into court and disclosed the paternity, long shielded, of her two illegitimate children. The two young men involved were Thomas Ball, and Mannerel( Mainwaring) Hilton of York, soon vanquished for all time.
Elizabeth Thompson married Alexander Gray, who raised her two children, along with children of their own.
