About Elizabeth Hays

Elizabeth Hood was the daughter of George Hood and Elizabeth Goist. She married William Hays. William was born on 1 August 1791, in Mifflin Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. They were married on 22 October 1816, in Mifflin Township. William was the son of Robert Hays who was born in 1758, in Ireland and Agness Nancy Reid who was born on 4 December 1759.

In 1850 William Hays, born in about 1792 in Pennsylvania and Elizabeth Hayes, born in about 1793 in Pennsylvania were living with Jonathan Shook age 28 and Sarah Shook age 27 in Liberty. Delilah age 7, Alonzo age 4 and Homer age 2 are living in the household. John Shook, age 24 is also living in the household.

Jonathan Shook married Leah Hays on 22 August 1846 in Trumbull County, Ohio.

In 1860, Federal Census records indicate that William Hays, born about 1790 in Pennsylvania, Elizabeth Hays, born about 1792 in Pennsylvania were living in Liberty, Trumbull County, Ohio. Also living in the household were Jonathan Shook, age 38, Leah B. Shook, age 38, Delilah, age 17, Alonzo, age 14, Homer age 11, Frederick, age 7 and an un-named child, age 5 month. The Shook's were born in Ohio. No relationship is given between the Shook family and William and Elizabeth Hays.

In 1870 the Shook family was living in Liberty, Trumbull County. William and Elizabeth Hays are not listed in the federal census. Indicating that Elizabeth may have lived beyond 1855.

In 1880 Jonathan Shook is a widower and is living in Liberty with his son and daughter, Fred and Addie. Fred is 27 and Addie is 16.

The 1900 Federal Census indicates that Jonathan Shook, born September of 1823 is living with his sister, Sarah Shook in Liberty. Living nearby is his married son Fred and his family. Jonathan Shook died in 1903 and along with other Shook's are buried in Seceders Corners Cemetery. No relationship has yet been found between the Hays and the Shooks.

Unsourced information indicates that Leah Shook was the daughter of William Hays and Elizabeth Hood.
