The known children of Martin (d. May 1757 in Louisa Co VA) and Elizabeth Key have been identified in other Louisa County records as: William Key, Jacob Key, Thomas Key, Luck Key, Elizabeth Key Thomson and an unknown female who married a Trower. Martin may have had other children by Elizabeth or possibly a first wife as well (Martin, Jr. and Charles). Although the date that Elizabeth's will was dictated is missing, Philip Burford posted bond on 26 Jan 1762 to become administrator of Elizabeth Key's estate so her death date is prior to that. Also, the placement of this record in the original will book falls between records of wills proven on 29 Jul 1761 and 11 May 1762. Based on these and other records, Elizabeth's will was probably dictated on 19 Dec 1761. submitted by: Philip R. Shipp, comphi@flash.net.[8] This "Verbal Will" information is also discussed in Dr. Gene C. Keys book, The Key Family - Deep Roots in Chesterfield County, South Carolina, "Judging from the close and long association of Phillip Burford, son of Daniel Burford, with Elizabeth Key and her sons in both Virginia and North Carolina, we believe he was a relative, most likely a brother."[9]
