About Elizabeth Mary Stark
The Canadian census for 1861 indicates that Elizabeth was 22 and already married to Scottish-born A. L. Middlemiss (31). They had a 15 year old servant and lived at Hamilton, Wentworth, Canada West.
When Elizabeth's brother, Mark, visited from England in 1896, she and her sister and mother presented him with a handmade autograph book which they signed on 9th March: "In memory of a joyful visit". We know from this that she called herself Lizzie, although her 'official' signature in the book is 'Elizabeth Mary Middlemiss, Ingersoll, Ontario.' The photograph of all five siblings was taken during Mark's stay.
The 1901 census shows her apparently two doors away from the Simister family, with an unknown family in between. By now she was a widow, living in Ingersoll. This record provides birth dates for all the individuals named, and so we find that Elizabeth was born on 17 November 1838 in Ontario, although she described her origin as Scottish.
Dates and places of death and burial, in 1924, from death certificate, seen online at Ancestry.com. The informant was her daughter, Mrs R.A. Simister (the initials being her husband's).
