Notes
Bill Massey II (Mar 8, 2005)
<First, with your "5 Joseph W. Marsee Sr.," as mentioned earlier, this is apparently Joseph2 (Richard1), born c. 1686/91, noted as "of Prince George County, Virginia," in a 7 July 1726 Brunswick County, Virginia, Land Patent [Book 12:534], with will dated 19 Aug 1760, proved 26 May 1761, Brunswick County, Virginia. [Greensville County was not formed from Brunswick until 1780]. Elizabeth, second wife of Joseph2, c. 1730, is roundly referred to as Elizabeth "Washington," a granddaughter of John Washington, who was of the George Washington family. But, investigation has shown that this Elizabeth died unmarried as is stated on her gravestones. [Starr/Hough Collection, Lancaster County, South Carolina, Library Archives.] Though Elizabeth Massey was literate, rare during these times, we?ve found no record of her maiden name.
