Humphrey Tugwell (1704-1775) - Grandfather's Will:

I hereby give devise and bequeath the said/Capital Messuage or Mansion House with the outhouses, Gardens, buildings, appurtenances thereto also belonging the said messuages or tenements thereunto adjoining the one aforesaid in the occupation of William Jotham and the other untenanted with the outhouses, gardens, buildings and appurtenances thereunto also belonging the said messuage or tenement in the occupation of George Edwards situate in Church Street with the outhouses gardens and buildings thereto also belonging all the said fields of meadows and pasture situate lying and being in the said parish of Bradford unto my wife Elizabeth Tugwell

to hold to her for and during the term of her natural life and after her decease I give and devise the same capital messuage or Mansion house messuages or tenements fields lands and premises and every part and parcel therof with the appurtenances unto George Hayward Tugwell, Thomas Tugwell, Elizabeth Tugwell and Mawby Tugwell,''' the four children of my late son -William Tugwell''' to hold them their heirs and assigns for ever on their attainment of their respective age or ages of 21 years as tenants in common and not as joint tenants but in case either should die before they attain the age of 21 years then I give and devise the share of his or her so dying of and in the said premises unto the survivors or survivor of them my said Grand children equally if more than one as tenants in common and not as joint tenants and if but one such survivor to such only one his or her heirs and assigns for ever and if all my said Grand children the said George Hayward Tugwell, Thomas Tugwell, Betty Tugwell and Mawby Tugwell shall happen to die before they attain his her or their age or ages of 21 years or without leaving issue of his her or theirs body or bodies lawfully begotten their I give and devise the said Capital Messuage or Mansion House messuages or tenements fields lands and premises unto my own right heirs forever in witness thereof I have to this my codicil contained in two sheets of paper to the first sheet set my hand and to this second and last sheet my hand and seal 26april, 1775-Humphrey Tugwell signed sealed published and declared by the said Humphrey Tugwell as a codicil to his last will and testament in the presence by us Dan Clutterbuck, William Jotham, James Bulgin.
