5 iv. Elizabeth ROSS was born in Parish of Fern, Ross-shire, Scotland, daughter of David Ross, 2nd of Balblair, and his wife Margaret Stronach.

She married David [SIC: Joseph] Munro of Allan and they had

  • a son, David, and
  • a daughter [SIC: Margaret] who married Charles McKenzie, who changed his name to Munro upon acquiring his wife's estate.

Elizabeth Ross, who married David [SIC: Joseph] Munro, Eighth [SIC: Sixth] Laird of Allan who appears to have lived at Daan House, in the Parish of Edderton. It is said that the Ross arms were painted or otherwise shown in one of the windows of Daan House in compliment to her.


"VI. Joseph Monro, so named after one of his mother's relatives in Ireland. He was in constant financial trouble, consequent on the debt inherited by him from his brother along with the estate, and which he was not able to pay off. He married Elizabeth, only child of Captain David Ross of Balblair, parish of Edderton, with issue

  • David, his heir and successor.
  • Andrew, who died in infancy.
  • Margaret, described as " heretrix of Allan "after the death of her elder brother David, unmarried in 1767. She was born about 1707, and married in 1740, Charles Mackenzie, descended from the family of Fairburn, with issue -
    • a son, Charles, who assumed the name of Monro, and ultimately succeeded his uncle in the estate of Allan. His father, mother, and he resided in the meantime at Kingsmills, Inverness.

Joseph died in 1713, when he was succeeded by his only surviving son."
