after a brief illness of typhoid fever, and a chronic illness of many years standing, Our dear mother, Mrs Elizabeth Nelson, wife of John Nelson, quietly fell asleep in Jesus at her home near Patterson, N.C. August the 20th, 1880, in the sixty-fifth year of her age. (1)

- John Nelson (1812-1903). He was a son of Hugh Nelson, Irish immigrant and stonemason by trade; and Sarah Day.They lived on a farm near a road then known as the Blowing Rock turnpike.
Their children were: George W., William Rufus, John H., Thomas F., Adolphus E., James Lee, Mary Ann (married Elijah Coffey), Jane Elizabeth (married James Webb Suddreth and then Jesse Gragg), and Sarah E. (married Job Moore). (2)
