Bartholomew had, on July 7, 1684, signed with his mark an indenture to John Bright, a merchant, for a term of four years as payment of his passage. On Aug. 16, 1715, Bartholomew received 318 acres of land by patent in Henrico Co, Va., at the confluence of Deep Creek and the south side of the James River, near Powhatan, Va., about 30 miles west of Richmond. Situated on this land today is St. Emma's Academy, built in 1890 by the Sisters of St. Francis DeSale, and is used as a Catholic Retreat. The Bartholomew Stovall Tricentennial was scheduled to be held on the grounds of Bartholomew's old farm in Aug 1984, marking the 300th anniversary of his arrival in America.

More About Ann Burton: Date born 2: Abt. 1678, Va Died 2: Aft. 1705, Va
Children of Bartholomew Stovall and Ann Burton are: i. Hannah Stovall, born Abt. 1699 in Va; died June 19, 1773 in Va; married (1) Luke Wilde; born Abt. 1699; died Aft. 1720; married (2) John Learwood; born Abt. 1699; died Aft. 1720.

Notes for John Learwood: Most published sources show, erroneously, that Hannah Stovall died 1749, unmarried, Lunnenburg Co., Va. However, a deed discovered in 1982, disproves this and established the fact that she was married to Learwood and was the dau of Bartholomew Stovall. (Deed book, pp. 408-9, Grantedd Index for Sanders/Saunders. R-29, Vol. 4, No. 2) The Hannah Stovall who died in 1749, Lunnenburg Co., Va, unmarried, has yet to be identified.
