About Francis West

From the Virginia Genealogist (Amelia Co, Book 1):

Will of Francis West of Amelia Co in Raughlie Parish April 26, 1739...leaves to loving wife Elizabeht West all land on the south side of Cellar Creek lying in the fork. If my wife should marry or die, land to my daughter Amy West. All my personal estate to my loving wife and five children equally. Unto my well-beloved friend Richard Dennis of Amelia County the plantation I now live on, 235 acres, excepting a burying place for my family. Also mentioned in the will were Richard Jones, William Dandy, Elizabeth E. Dandy (witnesses), James Anderson & George Beigty (appraisers), Samuel Cobbs (County Clerk), and Edward Booker Gent, Commission of the Peace.

Son of unknown West & Elizabeth Gilliam:

1.1 Francis West (c.1670-c.1715)

The date of his birth is unknown, but his brother John was born in 1673 (see below). Since Francis was listed first in his mother’s will, it is likely he was born before John. He died in Isle of Wight County, Virginia about 1715.

notes

It does not seem he had children.

The last named in the will, John Gilliam, was his first cousin. Francis and John were granted lands in the southern part of Isle of Wight County on the Meherrin River for their help in relocating the “Saponie” Indians to Christianna, 1717 (Fig. 1).[7]
