5 July 1631: Letters of inhibition at the instance of Beatrix Waddell, relict and only executrix nominate and confirmed to deceased Thomas Aldinston, merchant in Edinburgh, against Elizabeth Preston, only lawful sister of deceased James Preston of Craigmillar and George Buchanan of that ilk, her husband, upon a pending action at her instance against them before the Lords of Session to make payment to her of the sum of £2061 10s 8d scots due by deceased James Preston to her and her husband; dated 5 and 19 Jul 1631, with three executions on the reverse, all registered at Edinburgh, 5 Nov 1631. 20 October 1631: Instrument of sasine in favour of George Buchanan, eldest son and apparent heir to Sir John Buchanan of that ilk, and Elizabeth Preston, his spouse, and longest liver of the two of them, and their heirs, failing which to the male heirs of George, failing which to the male heirs of Sir John according to the tailzie of the estate of Buchanan, of the lands of Buchanan and Sallochy with the islands of Clairinsh and Kipnithick and fishing in Loch Lomond lying in the sheriffdom of Stirling for the principal, and in special warrandice thereof the lands of Strathyre with its mill lying in the sheriffdom of Perth, following on precept from Chancery, 10 Jul 1629, which proceeded upon a crown charter upon the resignation of John Buchanan; dated 20 Oct and registered at Edinburgh, 28 Nov 1631. 22 December 1632: Decreet before the Lords of Session at the instance of Beatrix Waddell against Elizabeth Preston and George Buchanan as representing the deceased James Preston of Craigmillar and against Robert Preston, now of Craigmillar, male heir of tailzie and uncle to the deceased James, decerning them, as lawfully charged to enter heirs of line and provision respectively, to make payment to Beatrix Waddell of £768 11s 8d owed by the deceased James Preston to the deceased Thomas Aldinston, and also of £1292 7s as the price of several goods provided for the deceased James Preston's burial.
