Biography

Elizabeth Hudson was the daughter of John and Ann (Rogers) Hudson.[1] She was probably born about 1662 at her parents' residence in Marshfield, Plymouth Colony,[2] although no birth or baptismal record is extant.

She married Jonathan Vickery by 1678 when their first child was born. She was named as Elizabeth Vicory in her father, John Hudson's will in 1683. He named his wife Ann, daughters Hannah Turner, Rhoda Palmer, Elizabeth Vicory, Abigall Stetson, son-in-law Japhet Turner. He named as joint executors his wife Anne Hudson & ... son Japhatt Turner. It was witnessed by Thomas Palmer and Elizabeth Palmer. The inventory of the estate was taken on 7 sep 1688 by Jos. Holmes and Francis Barker, and the will was proved 12 Sept 1688.[1]

Jonathon and Elizabeth settled in Monomoit (later known as Chatham) on Cape Cod by the spring of 1697, as he witnessed a deed that summer.[3] Jonathan was the lay minister of the church at Monomoy (now Chatham) in 1699, and he drowned there in 1701. He was the son of George Vickery of Marblehead and Hull.[4] He drowned when a boat upset in Pleasant Bay, Chatham. He and 3 others died in the accident on 30 April 1702.[3]

Jonathan did not leave a will, but his estate was probated in Barnstable County. His widow was said to have survived him by only a few years, dying of a "lingering illness not long before 1706." Their property was then assigned to the two sons, Jonathan and David, with payments to be made to their five sisters.[3]

Setting the estate of Mr. Jonathan Vickory and Elizabeth Vickory his wife late of Manomoitt, both dyed intestate which settlement bears date of 5 July 1706 there was settled on David Vickory one of the sons of sd Dec'd one third part of the real estate upon condition that he should give security when he should arrive to the age of one & twenty years for the payment of six & twenty pounds thirteen shillings & four pence unto Rebecca, his sister and to Sarah Nickerson, his sister's daughter when they should arrive to Lawfull age to Receive the same which was the whole of his part to pay out besides his own portion being sixteen pounds. And also sd David now arrived to full age If living and is gone off to sea & ot (returning?) the Conditions aforesd, & Legacies to be paid out of the sd third part and that is (not known?)(?) that the sd David now living Now Know ye therefore that I, Barnabas Lothrop, Judge, upon application made to me do now settle and sett over unto Jonathan Vickory the eldest son of the sd dec'd the remaining third part of all ye sd Real estate of teh sd Jonathan Vickory his Dec'd Father of all sorts and kinds whatsoever he having Given Bond as the Law directs, for paying out the portions of his sd brother & the sd Rebecca his sisters & Sarah Nickerson, his kinswoman. 6 Apr 1714.[5]
The inventory of Jonathan's estate, taken 29 May 1702, contained 30 acres of upland with a house and land at Pamett. His widow Elizabeth made oath to the inventory on 9 July 1702.[6] "Jonathan Vickery of Monomoiett, eldest son of Jonathon & Elizabeth Vickery, late of Manomoiett now deceased" was appointed administrator of his parents' estate on 05 July 1706, after his mother's decease. The estate was again inventoried on 2 April 1706, and Elizabeth Vickery's death was said to have occurred in "January last past." The estate was settled allowing the value of £128 to be divided among the children. Jonathan was to receive 2/3 of the property and David 1/3. These two sons were to pay their sisters £16 each.[7]
