Biography

Elizabeth FitzLewis was born circa 1436 at of West Horndon, Dunton, Igrave, & Cranham, Essex, England; Age 22 in 1458. She left a will on 14 July 1497.2 Her estate was probated on 22 December 1500; Buried at Letheringham, Suffolk.

• parents: daughter of Sir Lewis John, Sheriff of Essex & Hertfordshire b. c 1400, d. 27 Oct 1442 & Anne Montacute d. 28 Nov 1457

She married Sir John Wingfield, Sheriff of Norfolk & Suffolk, son of Sir Robert Wingfield and Elizabeth Goushill, circa 1455;

They had 12 sons (Sir John; Sir Edward; Henry, Rector of Baconsthorpe; John, Esq. (the younger); William, Esq; Sir Humphrey; Sir Thomas; Sir Robert; Walter, Esq; Lewis; Sir Richard; & Edmund, Esq.) and 4 daughters (Katherine, wife of Robert Brewse; Elizabeth, a nun; Anne, wife of John Echingham; & Elizabeth (again), wife of Francis Hall).

By a mistress, he had an illegitimate son, Richard Urry.7,5,8,2,3

"Sir Lewes John, in his Will, makes provision for the following children : Lewes, Henry, John, Philip, Edmond, Margaret, Elizabeth, Alice, and another Margaret. In this document all the sons are called by the surname of Fitz Lewes, and were probably the first of the family to bear it.”
