About Ella Berta Ewald
from her granddaughter-in-law Kitty Munson Cooper
Ella lived well past 100 and even when her sight and body were quite decayed, had a very sharp and inquiring mind. Her favorite pastime in her last years was having intelligent conversations with visitors. One conversation I particularly remember was a long discussion about whether marijuana should be legalized at the end of which she was convinced it should be!
Some of the reminiscences she shared with me were the excitement over the electrification of her building, one of the first, and the freedom the invention of the bicycle gave her and her friends as students. As well as the dangers of following too close to a horse drawn street car because of the droppings!
