Elmer Dean Hendrickson

Lifelong local resident Elmer Dean Hendrickson, 80, of Kelso passed away June 15, 2009, at the Hospice Care Center.

He was born April 15, 1929, in Willow Grove, to John and Tillie (Laulainen) Hendrickson and attended R.A. Long High School.

Mr. Hendrickson fished commercially in Alaska and retired from International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local #21 in 1991. He was a lifetime member and twice past master of Ryderwood Masonic Lodge, a lifetime member of Eagles, Elks and Scottish Rite. He was also a member of Moose Lodge #530 and the Washington State Grange. He enjoyed hunting in Wyoming, traveling, fishing, clamming, motorhome travel and "meeting friends at the office."

Mr. Hendrickson married Esther Rice in Longview in 1948. They later divorced. In 1958, he married Megs Hellman in Chehalis. She preceded him in death. He married Patricia Ranta in Reno in 1995. She survives him at home. Also surviving are five children and their spouses, Alyce Todd, Terry and Fred Olson and Nels Hendrickson, all of Longview, Larry and Jean Hendrickson of Ocean Park and Alyn and Gene Martin of Kelso; a sister and brother-in-law, Elsie and Don Koegler of Roseberg, Ore.; 17 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his second wife, Mr. Hendrickson was preceded by two brothers, a sister and a grandson.

A memorial luncheon will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday at the Longshoreman's Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Care Center or the Shriner Children's Hospital.
