Elsie Mae Carlson, 96, of Gordon, died on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, at Middle River Health & Rehab in Hawthorne. Elsie was born on January 3, 1912, in Menomonie to Ephraim and Augusta (Boerner) Meeds. She worked at The Old Oak Bar, St. Croix Café, and as assistant cook for Gordon Elementary School. She also cleaned cabins with her best friend, Della Bosley. Elsie loved her family and worked very hard, her children said. They grew up poor but they never knew it because of their mom, they said. Among those who survive and gratefully shared her life are her children, Wesley (Pauline) Carlson of Gordon, Christine (Ron) Cook of Gordon, and Lila (Gene) Anderson of Neosho, Mo.; son-in-law, Gary Platteter, of Duluth; 11 grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Kelly Platteter, on Sept. 11, 2005. A celebration of Elsie's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, at Brown Funeral Home in Solon Springs. Rev. Ron Cook will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Gordon Memorial Cemetery, Gordon. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Gordon-Wascott Ambulance, P.O. Box 68, Gordon, WI 54838, or the Gordon Fire Dept., Gordon, WI 54838.
